Pike installs streetlight poles in Charlotte

Pike was recently awarded a project to install over 750 new streetlight poles in the metro Charlotte region for Duke Energy. These new streetlight poles will also provide locations for new 5G network antennae.

Pike is installing pull boxes, pulling in new electric cable as well as installing three-way split poles that will be ready for the 5G antennae. In addition to the complexity and breadth of this project, Pike’s teams were under a tight timeline to complete the project before the scheduled August 2020 Republican National Convention, later called off due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Pike is also working with AT&T and Verizon to secure additional work installing the antennae on the new poles. These types of projects highlight the way Pike Electric, Pike Telecom, Pike Engineering and Pike Construction can partner on jobs in the future. Pike is one of the few companies — and possibly the only company — with the experience, people and equipment needed to handle a hybrid project that combines electrical service, state-of-the-art network technology and civic infrastructure improvement.

Pike’s experience in building underground electrical service has proven particularly valuable. The City of Charlotte is attempting to put as much of its electrical controls systems as possible underground. Very few communications construction companies have this experience, much less the equipment and skill needed to install streetlights and troubleshoot all aspects of the project safely.

Pike boosts construction services with creation of Pike Telecom

Pike Corporation announced on October 1, 2019, that it has increased its turnkey construction services with the creation of its Pike Telecom Division. This new division combines the telecommunications engineering group, formerly UC Synergetic, and a newly formed fiber and telecom construction group that provides full turnkey design and build capability.

This move signifies an important milestone for Pike Telecom’s fiber and wireless customers, who now have access to the same end-to-end solutions approach that Pike has offered to the electric and gas sectors for 75 years.

Brian Leary, Executive Vice President of Pike Telecom, commented on how this move helps to advance the goals of Pike’s customers. “Together with our clients, Pike Telecom has been ramping up for the deployment of 5G and other broadband initiatives. By self-performing all aspects of permitting, engineering and construction, we not only move faster and better, but our wide-ranging expertise helps guide our clients who are going through this rapid change.”

“We made this investment in Pike Telecom because we believe we bring a breadth of critical skills and experience the sector needs during its rapid expansion,” said Eric Pike, CEO of Pike Corporation. “We’ve served iconic clients such as AT&T and Verizon since 1986, but as demand for network reliability and bandwidth grows, we are installing and maintaining an increasingly important driver of our nation’s economic productivity and security. The lockstep coordination between design, construction and management, and our expertise in technology, becomes critical.”
